About PayRecs
PayRecs is the platform community and regional banks use to offer modern cross-border B2B payments to their business customers. International payments were one of the last corners of banking untouched by modern software, and the banks businesses depend on were being cut out of the fintech wave rather than powered by it. We fix both. Banks get a best-in-class payments product under their own brand and a new revenue line for their treasury team; businesses get international payments built on our three pillars: simplicity, transparency, and innovation. PayRecs is post-Series A and live with 20 bank partners across the US, moving money through direct integrations with payment providers including Visa and Corpay, and partnering with digital banking platforms like Q2. We are a small, senior team where every hire has visible impact.
The role
You will be our first dedicated payment operations hire and the owner of our money-movement desk. Today the desk is run by a co-founder; you will take it over end to end. In a cross-border, money-movement business this function demands real ownership: keep money moving, resolve what breaks, and drive the recurring issue rate down through process and better tooling. This is a senior, hands-on ownership role with a path to build and lead a payment operations function as volume grows.
What you will own
- Monitor money movement across our payment processors and banking partners; catch problems before customers do.
- Resolve issues end to end: stuck, failed, and returned payments, processor and bank exceptions, beneficiary and routing data problems, and reconciliation breaks. You are the resolver, not the relay.
- Own the operational relationships with processors and banking partners, and the day-to-day exception handling they require.
- Make sound judgment calls on exceptions where real money is at stake, and know when to escalate.
- Serve as the resolution backstop for customer payment escalations. Customer success keeps the customer informed; you fix the underlying problem.
- Drive the recurring issue rate down: build runbooks, tighten process, and turn recurring manual work into prevented work.
- Represent payment operations across the company: feed tooling needs into the product backlog and reliability needs into the platform roadmap.
- Track and report resolution time, issue volume, and recurring root causes.
What this role is not
This role is not customer success; CS manages the customer relationship while you resolve the issue. It is not engineering; you specify the tooling you need, you do not build it. It does not own compliance strategy. It is a resolver and a process owner, not a queue processor.
Your first six months
- 30 days: learn our systems, integration partners, and live issue patterns; take ownership of the most acute recurring issues.
- 60 days: own the desk day to day; document runbooks for the top recurring issues.
- 90 days: a measurable drop in time-to-resolution and a prioritized list of tooling and process changes that will prevent the highest-volume issues.
- Six months: the desk runs fully through you on documented process, and the recurring issue rate is trending down.
What you bring
- 5+ years in payment operations, ideally in cross-border or B2B payments.
- Hands-on experience resolving payment exceptions: returns, investigations, processor and bank exceptions, and reconciliation breaks.
- Experience owning operational relationships with payment processors and banking partners.
- Deep systems aptitude and fast learning; this role requires becoming highly fluent in our platform and integration partners.
- Calm and decisive under pressure, with sound judgment when money is at stake.
- A process-builder, not just a firefighter: you reduce recurring work, not only clear it.
Nice to have
- Direct experience with cross-border rails, FX, ACH, wires, or SWIFT.
- Familiarity with processor and core-banking integrations.
- SQL or comparable data skills for investigating issues directly.
- Fintech or other regulated-environment background.
Growth path
As volume grows, this role can add analyst capacity beneath it and grow into a Payment Operations Manager or Head of Operations scope.
